SOUNION GREECE- looking from the west to the east; The temple of Cape Sounion is in honour of God Poseidon; master of the seas and oceans. The temple was rebiult in the 5th century BC by Pericles on site to replace an older one that had previously been destroyed by the Persians. Doric style on an orthogonal base and its dimensions are 31;12m X 13;47m having 6 pillars in the shorter sides and 13 in the longer ones. The frieze of the temple is known for three main themes represented : A battle of the Giants (???a?t?羇??a); a battle of the Centauri (?e?ta???羇??a); as well as the feats of Theseus (T?se??); admittedly one of the most glorius ancient Heroes and former King and ruler of Athens.
