THE LATIN CROSS [history] The Crusaders ; now declared war on Constantinople; 1094 which fell to the Fourth Crusade on April 12; 1204. What followed was one of the most profitable and disgraceful sacks of a city in history; the Latins violated the city's holy sanctuaries. Before the capture of the city Constantinople; the Crusaders had decided property was specifically designated as booty. For the remainder of its Christian history Constantinople; and all of Greece would remain poor; dilapidated; and largely abandoned. The Franks and the Venetians implemented an emperor; and the Venetian Thomas Morosini was chosen as patriarch. Various Latin-French lordships throughout the greater Greek lands鈥?AND ALL WHERE STAMPED WITH WITH THIS TYPE OF CROSS AS TO SHOW IT WAS PERSONAL PROPERTY OF ; the duchy of Athens and the principality of the Morea 鈥? 鈥?HERE is a cross carved into the wall of the Propylaia; SOMETHING THE CRUSADERS LEFT BEHIND.
