Constellations - map of the southern skies Woodcut print made by the German artist, Albrecht Durer in 1515, at the request of the Imperial Astronomer, Johann Stabius. The arms of Matthaus Cardinal Lang von Wellenburg (to whom the plates are dedicated) is in the top left: his titles are set out in the wreath opposite. The three sets of Latin inscriptions set out information about the imperial privelege sources and dedication of the prints, including the role of Durer as designer and cutter. The Latin text at the top of this remarkably accurate figure translates Images of the Southern Skies.
