OCCULTISTS - JOANNE INDAGINE Woodcut portrait of the palmist, astrologer and physiognomist, Johanne Indagine, or Von Hagen, made for the latter's popular work, Introductiones Apotelesmaticae elegantes, 1522. Indagine was a learned priest of Steinheim, near Frankfurt: his book (more properly 'books', as the three disciplines were presented in three sections, even down to having different sequences of pagination), was among the most popular of its kind during the early 16th century, and was published in English, French and Germany in many editions.
