TAROT - OSWALD WIRTH DECK OF 1926 Undoubtedly the most beautiful Tarot deck of the 20th century, these Tarot cards were designed originally in 1889 by the symbolist, Oswald Wirth, and published in a slightly amended form, in a limited lithographic edition, during 1926. This 1926 edition was not published as a deck of cards, but in the form of pairs of cards (Major Deck only), printed lithographically on 11 sheets, and presented in a folder, published as part of Oswald Wirth's book on the Tarot, and related magic symbolism, Le Tarot Des Imagiers du Moyen Age, 1927. The folder, marked Planches, was entitled Le Tarot des Imagiers du Moyen Age. Restitu?dans l'esprit de son symbolisme par Oswald Wirth, 1926. These cards have since been published as decks, by Tchou Editeur (in 1966) and US Games Systems (in 1975), but, in comparison with the 1927 lithographic cards, both of these decks are crude in colour and design. In the Charles Walker Collection, is archived the original deck (black and white drawings) designed by Wirth. Card 1, Le Bateleur, and Card 2, La Papesse.
