PHYSIOGNOMY - METOPOSCOPY Four heads, illustrative of physiognomical traits, in respect to Metoposcopy, or the reading of forehead-lines, wrinkles and other marks on the face, in terms of fixed-symbol interpretation. From Barthelmy Cocles, Metoposcopia, 1658 edition. [Top Left] The crossing of a upper forehead crease-line (presumably that of Mars) which is taken as an indication of a violent death. [Top right] The wavy line (presumably that linked with Mercury) which is an indication of extensive sea-travel. [Bottom left] Forehead crease-lines on a woman that are taken as an indication of adultery and mendacity. [Bottom right] Symbol on the forehead of a woman which is said to be a sign that she is a prostitute. The philosophy behind this mark seems to be that the line linked with Venus is doubly crossed.
