SAINTS - STANISLAUS OF CRACOW Saint Stanislaus was born of a nole family at Szczepanow, in Poland, in 1010, and was consecrated Bishop of Cracow at the age of 62. King Boleslaus II committed many unjust acts, for which Stanislaus had him excommunicated. When, in spite of this, the King entered the church during a service, Stanislaus cancelled the proceedings. In response, the King killed him, by thrusting a sword into his chest. This image depicts the Saint, dying in the church, with Boleslaus running away. He is patron saint of Poland. Process print, from Alban Butler's The Lives of The Fathers, Martyrs and Other Principles Saints, edition of circa 1928.
