SAINTS - ANTONY OF PADUA Saint Antony of Padua (circa 1193-1231) was a Franciscan priest, of Portuguese parentage. Eventually, he worked alongside Saint Francis, who selected him to teach theology at Bologna and Padua. So forceful was his attack on the current Albigensian heresies that he was given the title, 'the hammer of heretics'. When he died, his body was taken to nearby Padua, where a basilica was built, and where (at his tomb) miracles still occur. He is depicted in this image with the Jesus Child sitting on a book, cradled in his left hand, with the Host in his right. Process print, from Alban Butler's The Lives of The Fathers, Martyrs and Other Principles Saints, edition of circa 1928.
