Staircase abalone shell. Interior of the shell of the staircase abalone (Haliotis scalaris), a species of sea snail in the family Haliotidae, the abalones, also known as ormers or paua. This species is found off the coast of Australia and Tasmania. As is common amongst abalones, the interior surface of the shell is iridescent.
