Hamerkop (Scopus umbretta). This large wading bird is found in all wetland habitats in sub-saharan Africa, Madagascar and southwest Arabia, where they feed on fish, frogs, rodents and similar small animals. The hamerkop's nest is a huge haystack-like construction, almost 2 metres wide, which is re-used each year. Photographed in Zimanga Reserve, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa.
