Rosalyn Yalow and Solomon Berson. Computer illustration of US medical physicist Rosalyn Yalow (1921-2011, left) holding an antibody (Y-shaped) next to US physician Solomon Berson (1918-1972, right). Working together, Yalow and Berson made numerous discoveries that led to major advances in clinical biochemistry. The are best known for developing the radioimmunoassay (RIA), a technique for measuring concentrations of antigens through the use of antibodies (immunoglobulins). Yalow shared the 1977 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for development of the RIA technique.
