Barley growing near a Berber village in the Anti Atlas mountains of Morocco, North Africa. In recent years, rainfall totals have reduced by around 75% as a result of climate change. This has led to many villagers abandoning their fields and migrating to the cities to try and find work, as they can no longer grow food to support themselves. The Berber plant their Barley in October/November so that it can germinate with the winter rains. It is usually harvested in Late April. This shot was taken in mid April, and the Barley should be ready to harvest, hear it has barely germinated due to a failure of the winter rains.
