LOFAR radio telescope dipoles. This is one of the clusters of dipoles for the LOFAR (Low-Frequency Array) radio telescope. This array consists of 25,000 antennas at 48 stations in several European countries. The collective observations are at very low radio frequencies (10-240 megaHertz). It is operated by ASTRON, the Dutch foundation for astronomical research. It is also used as a pathfinder for a next-generation radio telescope, the Square Kilometre Array (SKA). Photographed in October 2012.
