Henry Thompson (1820-1904), British surgeon. Thompson studied at the medical school at University College London (UCL), graduating in 1851. He spent his career at UCL, rising to consulting surgeon in 1874. He was also professor of surgery and pathology at the Royal College of Surgeons from 1884. He specialised in the urinary tract (urology) and bladder and kidney stones, and operated on the King of Belgium (1863) and former Emperor Napoleon III (1873). Thompson was president of the Cremation Society of Great Britain. He was also an artist, porcelain collector, author and astronomer. Knighted in 1867, he was made a baronet in 1899.
