Chimney Rock, Nebraska, USA. Chimney Rock is a spire of harder rock that was left behind as the cliff behind eroded away. It consists of clay, ash and sandstone rocks. It rises to a height of around 90 metres above the surrounding North Platte River valley. This spire was a landmark for pioneers travelling westwards on the Oregon Trail and Mormon Trail in the mid-1800s. It was designated as Chimney Rock National Historic Site in 1956. Photographed in July 2014.
