Ruins after Messina earthquake of 1908. This earthquake took place in Messina on the Italian island of Sicily, on 28 December 1908. It had a moment magnitude of 7.1 and triggered tsunamis that devastated the surrounding coastlines. The cities of Messina and Reggio Calabria were almost completely destroyed. Estimates of the number of lives lost range between 75,000 and 200,000. Photographed in January 1909.
