US Navy C-3 blimp refuelling. Naval officers and others watching as the US Navy's C-3 blimp approaches an airfield with an experimental refuelling facility. The flight was testing a design for collecting fuel while in flight without landing. This blimp, one of the C-class blimps that flew from 1918 to 1922, is a type of airship. These airships had a crew of four, a range of 2320 kilometres, and a cruising speed of 64 kilometres per hour. The C-3 blimp was destroyed in a fire in 1921. Photographed on 30 January 1919, at Naval Air Station Cape May, New Jersey, USA.
