Cultured Enterococcus faecium bacterial culture on an agar plate. Enterococcus faecium is a normal inhabitant of the human intestine and is found in faeces. It can cause urinary-tract infections, endocarditis; intra-abdominal, pelvic and wound infections; superinfections and sepsis. Enterococci have a large number of resistance traits, both inherent and acquired.
