Aeromonas caviae bacterial culture on an agar plate. Aeromonas are gram-negative rod-shaped, facultative anaerobic bacteria which occur ubiquitously in aquatic environments. Some species, such as A. hydrophila, A. caviae and A. veronii, are associated with human diseases. They can cause diarrhoea, opportunistic systematic diseases in immunocompromised patients and wound infections.
