Total solar eclipse of 18 July 1860, 19th-century illustrations. This eclipse was visible from northern Spain, with these drawings of the Sun's corona, as seen during this eclipse, obtained during observations made from Torreblanca in Spain. The drawing were made by the German-born and Italian-resident astronomer Ernst Wilhelm Leberecht Tempel (1821-1889), also known in Italy as Guglielmo Ernesto Tempel. Tempel reported an unusual curved coronal feature (upper left). Similar features have been observed by modern astronomers. This page is from the Italian journal 'Annali del R. Museo di fisica e storia naturale di Firenze'.
