Uranus, red and infrared filters. Uranus is the seventh planet from the Sun, orbiting at a distance of over 2.8 billion kilometres. It has a diameter of over 50,000 kilometres, around 4 times that of Earth. It is considered an ice giant, with an icy interior and an atmosphere of hydrogen and helium. It rotates tipped on its side relative to the plane of its orbit, as shown by the north-south indicator (top left) and the cloud bands (white). Each image is labelled with the red and infrared filters used (RG610 and IR685), a CML (Central Meridian Longitude) number and exposure times. These images were obtained on 25 and 26 September 2015.
