Shell of fossil ammonite sliced through the middle to expose the internal chambers. In professional terminology this is called a pyrite pseudomorph after a fossil ammonite. During the process of fossilization this shell has been entirely replaced by the mineral pyrite (FeS2), and the internal chambers are lined with tiny crystals of pyrite. Actual diameter of the ammonite is 50 mm.
