Long-tailed Machete Savanne (Chironius multiventris) protruding its forked tongue. This is a diurnal arboreal tree-snake. The tongue is used to pick up scent particles which it transfers to the Jacobsens organ, lying in a depression on the roof of the mouth. Photographed in the Ecuadorian Amazon.
