Archaeon ribosome subunit. Molecular model of a large (50S) ribosomal sub-unit from the archaeon Haloarcula marismortui. Ribosomes are composed of protein and RNA (ribonucleic acid). They are the site of translation, the process of protein synthesis. In bacteria they are also a target for antibiotic drugs.
