Ribosome bound to mRNA. Molecular model of a ribosome bound to messenger ribonucleic acid (mRNA, helical). This is part of the process of protein synthesis. Messenger RNA, formed during transcription, is the intermediary molecule between DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid) and its protein product. After the mRNA is formed (transcription), it binds to ribosomes where the process of translation takes place, producing proteins. This is a bacterial ribosome.
