Dobsonfly (Corydalus cornutus). 1869 illustration of a male dobsonfly. Dobsonflies are predatory insects, the males of which used their large mandibles (seen here) to grasp females during mating. This species is found around fast-flowing streams in eastern North America, where its aquatic larvae develop.
