Oviraptor dinosaur. Computer illustration of an Oviraptor sp. dinosaur clutching an egg. This small theropod dinosaur lived during the Late Cretaceous period (around 100 to 66 million years ago) in what is now Mongolia. Its name means 'egg taker' or 'egg seizer', in reference to the fact that the first fossil specimen was discovered on top of a pile of what were thought to be Protoceratops eggs.
