Also known as the 'fragrant olive' (olea fragrans), this evergreen tree, with its 4-lobed, extremely fragrant white flowers, is half-hardy and only suitable for very mild areas such as Italy, where this specimen is growing. It flowers from early to late summer and can attain a height and spread of up to six metres. Originating from China, it has a long history of use in traditional herbal medicine and flavouring tea and confectionery. The bark of this tree has been treated with a copper-based fungicide.
