California Gold Rush satire. 19th-century satirical artwork titled 'The Way They Come From California', attempting to return from California where they had travelled to find gold. The California Gold Rush took place from 1848 to 1853, with hundreds of thousands seeking their fortunes. Only a few found enough gold to make a profit. Some shown here have sacks of gold, while others are starving. This lithograph was published circa 1849 by N. Currier, Spruce, New York, USA.
