The Friesian horse or Friesian (alternatively Frisian) is a breed originating in Friesland, the Netherlands. They are best recognized by their black or dark brown color, and for their distinctive stance of nimble draft horses. In earlier centuries Frisians were in use as harness horses, for trotting races and also as workhorses. Nowadays they are popular with breeders and as dressage horses. A Friesian stands 150 to 170 cm.
