Faraday's 'Chemical History of a Candle'. Double-page spread of notes made by British chemist and physicist Michael Faraday (1791-1867) for his famous lectures titled 'The Chemical History of a Candle'. Faraday's lectures at the Royal Institution, London, UK, helped popularise science amongst the public. He gave these lectures on the physics and chemistry of flames several times (1831 and 1850), and twice to children as part of the Christmas Lectures (1848 and 1860). These notes include burn marks from a candle at upper centre. The lectures (six in total) were published in book form in 1861, and have remained in print ever since.
