Demonstration of gel electrophoresis. Gel bath used to demonstrate electrophoresis using coloured dyes. The dyes are put into small wells in an agarose gel bath and a current is applied across the cell. The different components of each dye move at different rates through the gel (here, from top to bottom), based on their size and electric charge. This is essentially the same process as the one used in analysing fragments of DNA.
