Deinotherium prehistoric mammal, computer illustration. This extinct herbivorous proboscid mammal is related to elephants and lived in what is now Europe. They appeared in the Middle Miocene (around 16-12 million years ago) and continued until the Early Pleistocene period (around 2.6 -0.8 million years ago).
