Statue on the main square in Ferrara, North Italy, of Girolamo Savonarola, a Dominican friar and preacher born 1452 A.D. in Ferrara. He was known for taking rebellious and reformative views against the catholic practices of those times and the ruling Medici dynasty as well. He expressed his views by prophecies and visions including a biblical flood and the establishment of a new and purer form of Christianity. After confessing, under torture, that his views and prophecies were fallacious he was condemned to death, his body burned after a public hanging in the central square of Florence in 1498.
