Australian funnel-web spider (Hadronyche valida) standing in a defensive posture. This spider is used for spider venom research. Droplets of venom are visible at the tips of the fangs which are collected using a pipette. The venom is being studied as a possible source of novel anti-cancer drugs. Photographed at the Australian Institute for Tropical Health and Medicine, James Cook University, Cairns, Queensland, Australia.
