Kalgoorlie-Boulder, Australia. Satellite image of the city of Kalgoorlie-Boulder in Western Australia. This city was founded in 1893 when gold was discovered in the so-called 'Golden Mile'. The concentrated area of large gold mines is considered to be the richest square mile on earth. Imaged by the ASTER (Advanced Spaceborne Thermal Emission and Reflection Radiometer) instrument onboard NASA's Terra satellite, on 30th July 2012.
