The Brewhouse is part of the Elizabethan Charlecote, through its equipment mostly dates from the 11th century. Sir Thomas Lucy, who inherited in 1551 and built the present Charlecote, lists his servants. Besides a Falconer and a Keeper of the Horse, they include a Brewer, an Under-Brewer and a Malt maker. Queen Elizabeth visited Charlecote in 1572 so it is reasonable to suppose that she tasted the beer.
