Through the joint efforts of 27 people's communes, a 20 meter wide and 53 kilometer long canal has been recently completed in 30 days in Honan Province, Central China. The canal, running East-West in the Northern part of the province, cuts across the 3 counties of Hsuchang, Yenling, and Fukow, links up 12 rivers and 13 medium and small sized reservoirs, forming an integrated system to bringirrigation to large tracts of the provinces farm lands. Water transportation, fishery, and multi-purpose water projects will be developed. January 1960.
