Homo heidelbergensis fossil foot bones, underside view of the bottom of the foot. This reconstruction is based on fossils of Homo heidelbergensis dating from 50MB0,000 years ago during the Pleistocene. This reconstruction of the bones of the right foot of a male is based on fossil bones found at the Sima de los Huesos site in the Atapuerca Mountains of northern Spain. The foot structure is much more robust than modern human feet, and also has some characteristics that differentiate it from Neanderthals. Researchers have estimated that this male individual had a height of 173MB.3 centimetres. The results were published in September 2013.
