The man seated smoking a pipe, wears a fur coat which could be reversed so the fur was worn inside. The man sheltering under an umbrella, made of oiled canvas, is a soldier, wearing 'undress'. A child shelters with him. Image taken from The Costume of China. Illustrated in forty-eight coloured engravings. Originally published in William Miller: London, 1805.
