Blood on Thunder fording the Red Sea, Hastings, in oriental dress and grasping bags of money, is carried through a sea of corpses on the shoulders of his supporter Edward Thurlow, the Lord Chancellor. The title refers to Thurlow's nickname of 'The Thunderer', as he was renowned in the House of Commons for his bad temper and colourful language.
