The Times, This etching by an unknown artist was published in April 1784, a month after the Fox-North coalition collapsed. Here we see the rising sun of 'Pitt', the future Prime Minister, and the setting sun of 'Fox'. Charles James Fox also appears as the central figure, easily recognisable by his pronounced eyebrows. He was frequently depicted by caricaturists as Guy Fawkes, due to his belief that the House of Lords and the monarchy had too much power. It is therefore probable that the character bending over and setting light to the crutch with gunpowder is also intended to be Fox. The head at the top of the crutch is Lord North, symbolising their alliance. Published : 1784.
