Albertia conifer fossil. Sandstone block containing a fossilised specimen of a twig from an Albertia conifer. Sandstone block size: 16 by 17 centimetres. This Albertia conifer is a direct ancestor of the southern hemisphere Agathis (Kauri) family. No conifer species of this kind now grows in the northern hemisphere. This specimen dates from around 240 million years ago, during the Triassic. It was found in the Voltzia sandstone quarries of the Vosges mountain range in northern France, and is part of the Grauvogel-Gall collection, held in Strasbourg, France.
