Neolithic burial from the Diros cave complex in the Mani region of the Greek Peloponnese. These caves were inhabited during the late Neolithic period (ca. 5, 400 - 3, 200 bc.) and this burial shows a young woman in the typical contracted position and was found buried at a depth of 1.65 m. Intact burials such as this from the Neolithic period are extremely rare. The entrance to this, the Alepotrypa cave, was closed and sealed by a prehistoric earthquake and was only discovered in 1958, although the main cave complex of Pyrgos Dirou was discovered in 1895.
