Ammonite fossil, exposed in a flat dolostone bed of coastal rocks. Ammonites, now extinct, were marine invertebrate molluscs with a spiral shell, most less than 20 centimetres across. This specimen was found in the Kimmeridge Clay Formation, in Dorset, UK, part of the Jurassic Coast Heritage Site. This formation consists of mudstones and shales.
