Crystal Palace Park dinosaur models. These 19th-century models were sculpted by Benjamin Waterhouse Hawkins, working closely with Joseph Paxton and Richard Owen. They were installed in the world's first dinosaur park, which opened at Crystal Palace Park, London, UK, in 1854. They were based on 19th-century fossil discoveries and knowledge, and the reconstructions include some inaccuracies. These are the Iguanodon sculptures. Iguanodon lived about 120 million years ago in the Early Cretaceous period. One has a paw on a cycad plant (lower right). A (real) heron is in the background at centre. Photographed in May 2013.
