Galleon sailing to Venezuela. 16th-century artwork of the galleon 'La Nostra Sengnora' setting sail from Sanlucar (north-west Spain) for Venezuela in the 1530s. Sanlucar was one of the ports used by Spanish ships travelling to the New World. Spain's colonisation of what is now Venezuela had started in 1522. This artwork is from a volume of memoirs of the Coeler family of Nuremberg, Germany. The memoirs include accounts of journeys undertaken by different members of the family. This artwork is from Jerome Coeler's account of his travels in 1533 and 1534.
