1692 Port-Royal earthquake. 17th-century artwork of the destruction in Port-Royal, Jamaica, following the earthquake that occurred on 7 June 1692. This earthquake caused parts of the port town to sink sink into the sea due to liquefaction of the ground. Thousands died during the disaster and in the days that followed. Artwork from 'A True and Perfect relation of that most Sad and Terrible earthquake, at Port-Royal, Jamaica which happened on Tuesday 7th June, 1692', an account published in London that year.
