Gough's Cave craniums and bones. Skull and bones fragments from modern humans (Homo sapiens) excavated from Gough's Cave, Cheddar Gorge, Somerset, UK. The skull caps are around 14,700 years old (Creswellian) and are the oldest directly dated examples in the world. Gough's Cave was first explored in 1890, with numerous prehistoric Stone Age bones and ivory and antler tools found in subsequent excavations.
