Hyracotherium horse, fossil skull. This is the earliest known horse, dating from the late Palaeocene and early Eocene of North America and Europe. This skull, 13 centimetres long, was found in the London Clay deposit at Harwich, Essex, UK. This specimen is part of the collections held at the Natural History Museum, London, UK.
